D.C. Douglas is coming to FanQuest!

D.C. Douglas will forever be known as either the sinister voice of Albert Wesker (in seven “Resident Evil” games) screaming “Chriiiisssss” as he melts in a lava lake, or as the soulful voice of Legion in the “Mass Effect” series, pulling on the heartstrings of fans around the world. These roles are a far cry from some of his other popular roles, such as the persnickety alien Zepht in “Star Trek: Enterprise” or the logical autobot Chase on the longest running Transformers show, “Transformers: Rescue Bots.” Oh, and we can’t forget him as Bud in “Sharknado 2.”

Other cartoon/anime highlights: Col. Rawls in season 8 of “Regular Show,” “One Piece” as X Drake, “Cyborg 009” as The Professor, “Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans” as Jayse, “Hajime no ippo: Champion road” as Makunouchi Ipso, “Family Guy” as Superman, “Naruto: Shippûden” as Gari, plus several new animes coming soon.

Though D.C. is best known as the current voice of Albert Wesker in seven games starting in 2007, other video games that some find sexy: “Persona 5” as Suguru Kamoshida, “NieR: Automata” as Pod 042, “Trails of Cold Steel I/II” as Rufus Albarea and Valimar, “Fire Emblem: Fates” -as Gunther, “BlazBlue: Chronophantasma” as Azrael, “Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma” as Zero/Delta, “Xenoblade Chronicles X” as H.B., “Tales of Vesperia” as Alexei Dinoia, “Eternal Sonata” as Jazz, “Star Wars: The Old Republic” as Lekk-Ji/Kal Bedo/Various, “The Crew” as Bill Coburn, “Tekken 6” and “Street Fighter X Tekken” as Raven and Eddie Gordo, “Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens” as 2Med2, “Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation” as AWACS Ghost Eye, “Xenosaga Episode III” as Voyager – Black Testament, “Exist Archive: The Other Side of the Sky” as Yamatoga, “Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse” as Odin, and countless more.

In addition to his extensive character voiceover work you’ve heard him on over 300 radio & TV commercials from GEICO to Experian. You may also have seen him as Pa Kettle on several episodes of “Z Nation” as well as his many guest spots that include “NCIS,” “NCIS: Los Angeles,” “2 Broke Girls,” “Workaholics,” “Charmed,” Criminal Minds,” “Castle,” numerous soaps and many more TV shows.

D.C. has also been in many indie films you’ve never heard of, but Albert Wesker fans should definitely check out “Apocalypse Kiss” on iTunes/Amazon if they want to see him with blonde hair and a tan. Or look for him as the Wesker-like villain in “Isle of The Dead” on SYFY costarring Joey Lawrence and WWE former Diva, Maryse Mizanin.

Less than six weeks ’till FanQuest!

We are now only 40 days away from FanQuest and the organizing committee couldn’t be more excited about it! We have been working feverishly to finalize details for the con, including vendor and artist tables in our bazaar, performances in the theatre and courtyard areas, and (of course!) booking guests. These, along with the DnD Improv, Star Wars social and live Beer & Board Games evening events have been keeping us very busy.

We appreciate everything you have done to help us in creating this awesome event, but we still need your help in promoting it. Skip down to the end of this post for more info on that.

So, in case you’ve missed our posts on social media, or simply haven’t been following us there, here’s an update on all things FanQuest:

1. Guests

We have unfortunately had a few setbacks in this area over the past several weeks. Our committee members were working very hard to secure a particular guest for FanQuest, one who has touched upon many fandoms, but in the end we could not sign this guest for an appearance this year. However, we are confident that we will be able to bring this person to Winnipeg in 2018. The negotiation process with this guest took longer than anticipated, so we are a bit behind schedule for our marketing campaign. But we are still looking for a replacement guest and hope to have an exciting announcement for you this week! We also had film director Steven Kostanski and YouTubers Phylol and Huzzy cancel their appearances at FanQuest due to scheduling and travel conflicts, however Mr. Kostanski has assured us that he would love to come in 2018, and we are working on having Phy & Huz Skype in to a session on League of Legends at this year’s convention.

Not the greatest news overall, however we’re still very excited about our current guest lineup, and we think you’ll love the final guest announcement we’ll have for you later this week.

2. Bazaar

Our FanQuest bazaar is nearly sold out, thanks to everyone who bought tables during the Kickstarter campaign and afterward. You can find a detailed floor plan showing all the vendors and artists taking part. If you or anyone you know is interested in selling merchandise at FanQuest, please email allison@fanquestcon.com.

3. Programming

We are waiting to sign our final guest before we release our programming schedule, however due to overwhelming submissions we have added two more venues for panels, workshops and programming. We have booked a classroom at the U of W for additional sessions, and we are also going to use the outside courtyard space for performances and demonstrations. Even more awesome stuff for you to do at FanQuest!

4. Travel/Hotel

Anyone wishing to stay close to all the action at FanQuest may book a room at the Holiday Inn & Suites at a special discounted rate. Just call 204-786-7011 and ask for the FanQuest rate.

5. Star Wars social & evening events

We have booked Music Vibe DJ services to play the social, and they have promised an amazing light show, along with plenty of Star Wars-themed music. We are also working on themed drinks, snacks and decorations to help transport you to a galaxy far, far away. The Mandalorian Mercs will be on site collecting their bounties (all proceeds to go to charity) and Foamtastic Creations will have awesome Star Wars prop replicas there for you to check out and take photos with.

The DnD Improv and Beer & Board Games shows are still a go, and should prove to be highly entertaining. It is absolutely possible to go to both DnD Improv and the social or Beer & Board Games in the same night. We want you to be able to experience all things FanQuest!

6. Volunteers

We have received offers from many awesome people to help run FanQuest, but we do still need volunteers in key areas of FanQuest, such as guest liaisons, crowd management, information, and the photo booth. If you know anyone who is interested in volunteering for FanQuest, have them email sarah@fanquestcon.com.

7. Marketing/Promotion

As I said earlier, we are behind schedule on our marketing campaign, simply because we are waiting to secure our final guest. We want this person to be featured on our posters, Facebook and YouTube ads, flyers and other marketing materials. We think this person will be a big draw for several fandoms, and there’s no point in paying for a guest to come to a convention if we can’t advertise that they’re coming.

We are bypassing traditional media advertising in favor of those tactics above. We think our money is better spent on guaranteed views & impressions rather than perceived ones.

But we do very much need your help in promoting this event. We are going to start posting more frequently on Facebook and Twitter about the various things happening at FanQuest, most often with a call to action to buy tickets. We would very much appreciate it if all of you could share those posts, with your own comments or thoughts when possible, to your followers. This is how we really get the word out about FanQuest. It’s true that a lot of awesome people like yourselves have come forward and supported FanQuest through Kickstarter, but I know that there are many more people out there who don’t yet know about FanQuest. Help us let them know about it. Even sharing just once or twice a week will help us immensely.

Thank you in advance for all your support, we couldn’t do this without you. If you have any questions about any of this, feel free to email me at dan@fanquestcon.com

See you at FanQuest!

FanQuest Tickets On Sale!

Tickets to all FanQuest events are now on sale through Yapsody. This includes tickets to our evening events: The Star Wars 40th Anniversary Social, the DnD Improv Show and Beer & Board Games Live! Seating for those last two is limited, so if you really want to see them, sooner rather than later is better! The FanQuest Deluxe Pass includes tickets to all the evening events.

See you at FanQuest!

FanQuest is Funded!

Thanks to your support, FanQuest reached its Kickstarter goal of $10,000 at approximately 1:00 pm CST on Monday, February 6, 2017. The donations continued to roll in for the remaining 90 minutes of the campaign, bringing the grand total raised to $10,553.

We at team FanQuest would like to extend our deepest thanks to you for backing this project. FanQuest would not be possible without you. We had planned to proceed with the event regardless of our success on Kickstarter, but now that our funding is secure, we can go forward with our event and make FanQuest an amazing fan experience for all of you this May.

We will continue to keep you updated here on Kickstarter with more guest and activity announcements over the next few months. Be sure to follow us on our social media channels as well to get the updates even faster.

In order to avoid costly postage fees, we are planning to make your Kickstarter rewards available to you at a special “Kickstarter supporters” booth at FanQuest. There you will be able to pick up your passes, t-shirts, founder buttons and posters. If you chose the deluxe pass reward, we will mail these out or drop them off for you approximately one week before FanQuest, as that reward includes tickets for our Friday night events that take place before FanQuest proper.

If you chose the creator table reward, we will be in touch in the weeks ahead to discuss space requirements and to send floor plan drafts. We want all of you to have awesome table placement at FanQuest, and we have some interesting ideas to help make that happen.

In the meantime, if any of you have any questions about FanQuest, you can ask them on Kickstarter, message our Facebook page, or email dan@fanquestcon.com. We look forward to meeting each and every one of you and discussing how we can make FanQuest Winnipeg’s best fan convention ever!

Again, from the bottom of our collective hearts, thank you. We are so excited about our success and thankful that all of you saw fit to support this event.

Sincerely,

Dan, Lyndon, Kyle, Allison, Christiana, Erik, Sarah and Conor
